Legislation has been introduced in 34 states that would prohibit fines from being levied against citizens who refuse to buy mandated health insurance (imposed by the state or by the federal government).

Karl Denninger outlines one possible explanation for the push for federal health insurance mandates – how its unconstitutionality will ultimately lead to the establishment of a single payor system.

It’s encouraging that state-level governments are putting up resistance to the centralized power and planning of the federal government. If we as doctors and citizen-patients don’t see something wrong with our government requiring us to buy a privately-produced good, we deserve the ultimate result.
